Microsoft AdCenter and Google Adwords and SEO

Webworks Blog

Have You wondered how much more web traffic you will get by using Microsoft Adcenter? Compared to Google Adwords?

Well, here is the story. Pros and Cons. Google Adwords is more popular, but Microsoft Adcenter is far superior when it comes to support.

That said, lack of communication whether it be support or a simple question can cost you traffic, clicks and customers. Google may have more traffic, but their support is shameful. This is not just my opinion, but you will hear all over the internet. When you enter the world of a paid service, then you expect and deserve support in a timely fashion.

Google AdWords is nothing more than canned responses. It takes an average of 3 weeks to resolve a simple matter. Why? Because you have to go through the standard text response for a few communications, generally a week apart. Then you will get an email to tell you they are working on it. Then you get an answer that really does not explain because you never got a chance to communicate with them. This happened over Christmas with a client's account. It was nothing we could fix, it was something that Google had determined that this client web address was low quality ALL of a SUDDEN. The account had been running for the better part of a year, and all of a sudden, all the keywords were irrelevant. It was a discount watch store. Even words like "watch" were deemed irrelevant. That is crazy. Without explanation, all of a sudden it started working again. No apology, over Christmas, and thousands of dollars lost in potentials sales in the previous weeks before Christmas. It was awful. It was so bad, I couldn't not believe it.

By contrast, Microsoft Adcenter, which is Yahoo and Bing combined as this occurred recently. You can email and receive a real response. You are assigned a confirmation number immediately. You can click on Chat  and someone answers within seconds. Real help. You can call !!!

Not only that, but Microsoft Adcenter will let you sign up for free for the optimized program. You work with them to learn, or just say "hey, you do it". In other words, their support is superior. I am speechless. I would love to tell more, and I will in my next blog.

In a more technical level, I would like to compare the pros and cons based on the application. For example, MS Adcenter, allows you to enter . Instead of entering a keyword in your ad, you enter a placement word. This is a way of having one ad display the keywords the user types in. Google does not.

Google, allows you define the location by a radius. Show ads in a 30 mile radius from a zip code perhaps, where with MS, you have enter the cities and the aggregate will be the location. The is a moot point if you are not advertizing locally.

One word of caution with the custom map location is, that is goes by IP address. So for non-mobile ads, let's say I want to display ads in Virginia. I am not far from Washington DC or Maryland. ( DC metro ). But, the business is in Virginia and by law, this business is licensed in VA and cannot accept DC or MD customers. So, I make my ad for Virginia. I live in VA.  But, my IP shows that I am in Baltimore, MD, sometimes DC. Why???  Because the IP address is my ISP's address, not mine. Check it out.

Go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/, then get your IP address and click on http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm. You will see, that in most cases, it will not be the town you actually live in. It is from the CO of your ISP. Sometimes it will be fine, but what I am saying, it could show you in a totally different state. Therefore, I live 2 miles from this business, and if I were to type in that business keywords, it will never display because it shows I am in Washington DC. ( Please note, if you type your keyword, and include Virginia, it will show Virginia). But the idea is, to save money on clicks for not showing your local business across the states sine they are not going to drive 3 thousand miles. Be careful and you should use the Preview tools rather than the actual internet as it can cost you points in the page ranking world. I will explain that next.
